Have you ever noticed how quickly we judge our feelings? That pit in your stomach when worry creeps in, or those tears that show up at unexpected moments - we often wish these away, like they're glitches in our system. But what if we've been looking at it all wrong? Psalm 139:14 tells us we're "fearfully and wonderfully made." Not just our strengths, not just our smile or our talents, but every single part of us. Yes, even those big feelings we sometimes wish we could turn down.

Short Devotional

Remember Queen Esther? She wasn't a superhero who walked around with perfect confidence. She was just like us - someone who felt her heart race when faced with speaking up, who probably had sleepless nights wondering if she was doing the right thing. When she heard about the plot against her people, she didn't immediately march into the king's throne room. No - she took time to feel, to process, to pray. She spent three days letting her emotions guide her into a deeper connection with God.

When's the last time you let yourself feel everything without trying to rush past it? Esther's story reminds us that God doesn't ask us to be emotional giants who never tremble. Instead, He takes our shaking hands, racing hearts, and tear-stained faces and uses them all. Those butterflies Esther felt? They probably helped keep her alert and focused. Her deep love for her people? That gave her the courage to risk everything. Read more about Esther's story in the Book of Esther, chapters 4-7.

Let's Pray

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for crafting me with such incredible care and purpose. Every feeling and every emotion that flows through me is part of Your masterpiece. When I look at Psalm 139:14, remind me that being wonderfully made includes all of these feelings – even the ones that sometimes feel too big to handle.

Lord, there are moments when my emotions feel overwhelming – when anxiety creeps in, when sadness weighs heavy when joy bubbles up unexpectedly. Help me see these feelings not as flaws to fix but as parts of Your intricate design. Give me wisdom to understand them, courage to feel them fully, and grace to handle them well.

Thank You for creating me with the capacity to feel deeply. For the tears that show compassion, the laughter that brings healing, the righteous anger that fights injustice – each emotion serves Your purpose. When I'm tempted to hide or suppress what I'm feeling, remind me that You designed every part of who I am with intention and love.

Guide me in using these emotions as tools for connection – with You and with others. Show me how to navigate them with wisdom, knowing that even Jesus wept, celebrated, and felt deeply during His time on earth. Let my emotional landscape become a testament to Your craftsmanship, drawing others closer to Your heart.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.

Journaling Prompts

  • Which emotion do you tend to judge most harshly in yourself, and how might God see it differently?

  • How does knowing you're "fearfully and wonderfully made" change the way you view your emotional responses?

  • What emotions help you connect most deeply with others, and how might God be using those connections?

You know those moments when you feel everything all at once? That's not a flaw in your design - it's a feature. It's part of the beautiful, complex way God made you. Every tear, every belly laugh, every moment of quiet joy - they're all brushstrokes in His masterpiece. Next time those big feelings show up, try seeing them through His eyes. They might just be invitations to something deeper, something real, something true. Let's walk this road together, learning to embrace every part of who He made us to be. Because in His eyes, you're not too much - you're just right. You're exactly who He created you to be.

Until next time,
May the Lord Bless you and keep you;
May He make His face shine upon you;
And be gracious to you and give you peace

God Bless!
