We've all heard it before: "What I do with my body is my business." That line gets repeated in a hundred different ways when we're trying to justify something we know doesn't feel right. Maybe it's the stuff we do in private that nobody else knows about. Maybe it's the habits we've learned to hide or the ways we treat ourselves when we're alone. We tell ourselves these things are just physical—they don't touch our relationship with God. But what if that's the biggest lie we've been believing? Today, we're going to look at a truth that changes everything about how we see ourselves and the battles we face behind closed doors.
Short Devotional
Jesus didn't just save your soul and leave your body behind. When Paul wrote to the church in Corinth, he reminded them of something they kept forgetting: their bodies weren't their own anymore. The Holy Spirit doesn't just hover around us—He actually lives inside us. That means what happens to our bodies happens in God's house.
Here's the hard truth: when we struggle with things we think are "just physical," we're not struggling alone in some separate room. God is right there with us because He lives in us. The secret battle with food, the private screen you keep coming back to, the harm you do to yourself when the pain gets too heavy—these aren't happening outside of your spiritual life. They're happening in the same place where God's Spirit dwells. That realization can feel overwhelming, but it's actually the beginning of real freedom. We don't have to face these things alone anymore because God has already moved in.
Let's Pray
Heavenly Father,
I come to You knowing that You already see everything. You see the things I do in private, the battles I fight when no one else is watching. I've told myself for so long that these struggles are just physical—that they don't really affect my relationship with You.
But Your Word tells me something different. You say my body is a temple where Your Holy Spirit lives. That means You're here with me, even in my darkest moments.
Father, I confess that I've been treating my body like it's mine to do with as I please. I've hurt myself in ways I never told anyone about. I've given in to habits that started small but now control me.
I've believed the lie that what I do with my body doesn't matter to You. Forgive me for separating the physical from the spiritual when You created them to work together.
Thank You for not abandoning me in my struggle. Thank You that Your Spirit lives in me even when I feel unworthy of it. I'm grateful that You paid the ultimate price to make my body Your home.
Today, I ask for Your strength to honor You with my body. Help me see myself the way You see me—valuable, bought, and never alone.
Give me the courage to bring my secret battles into Your light. Show me that real freedom comes from surrendering everything to You, not just the parts I think are spiritual.
I trust that You're working in me, transforming me from the inside out.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
Journaling Prompts
If God's Spirit truly lives in your body like a house, how would you describe the condition of His home right now—is it a place of honor, neglect, or something in between?
Imagine Jesus physically present with you during your most private struggle—what do you think He would say to you in that moment?
How does knowing you were "bought at a price" change the way you think about who has authority over your body and your choices?
You don't have to keep living in two separate worlds—one where you follow God and another where you hide your struggles. God has already bridged that gap by making your body His home. This weekend, bring one secret battle into His light and watch Him meet you there with grace stronger than your shame. Remember, you're not fighting alone anymore.
Until next time,
May the Lord bless you and keep you;
May He make His face shine upon you;
And be gracious to you and give you peace.
God Bless!
