Have you ever wondered why some stories of God’s work stay hidden while others get told over and over? There’s a reason Jesus didn’t let one woman quietly slip back into the crowd after He healed her—He needed everyone to hear what happened. Today, we’re going to look at why sharing what God has done in our lives isn’t just about us. Sometimes our silence about God’s work keeps other people stuck in their shame, and our testimony might be the key that unlocks someone else’s freedom.
Short Devotional
Jesus could have let the healed woman disappear back into the crowd. She got what she came for—the bleeding stopped. But Jesus stopped everything and made her tell the whole story in front of everyone. Why? Because her community had labeled her “unclean” for twelve years. If she walked away silently healed, they would never know she was restored. They needed to hear from Jesus Himself that she was whole and clean again. Her public testimony wasn’t punishment—it was her passport back into normal life.
We do the same thing today. We experience God’s forgiveness, healing, or breakthrough, but we keep it private. Maybe we’re afraid of seeming boastful. Maybe we think nobody cares. But here’s what we miss: someone in our world is carrying the same shame we just got freed from. When we stay silent about what God has done, we accidentally tell them their situation is too embarrassing to talk about. Our story could be the proof they need that freedom is possible. What if the testimony we’re hiding is exactly what would set someone else free?
Let's Pray
Heavenly Father,
I come to You knowing that You see everything I’ve walked through. You know the places where I’ve experienced Your healing, Your forgiveness, and Your restoration.
I’m grateful that You didn’t leave me stuck in my struggles. Thank You for the ways You’ve changed my life, even when nobody else could see what was happening.
But God, I confess that I’ve been silent about Your work. I’ve kept my testimony hidden because I’m scared of what people might think. I worry they’ll judge me for what I went through, or they’ll think I’m showing off.
I’ve convinced myself that my story doesn’t matter or that it’s too personal to share. Forgive me for hiding what You’ve done.
Help me see that my silence might be keeping someone else trapped. Open my eyes to the people around me who need to hear that freedom is real.
Give me the courage to share my story, even when it feels uncomfortable. Let me remember the woman in today’s verse, how You called her “Daughter” and told her to go in peace because her faith made her well. You didn’t let her hide, and I don’t want to hide anymore either.
Show me who needs to hear my testimony. Give me the right words and the right timing. Help me share not to draw attention to myself, but to point people toward You.
I trust that my story, combined with Your power, can set others free from the same shame I carried.
In Jesus’s mighty name, Amen.
Journaling Prompts
What is one specific way God has worked in your life that you’ve never told anyone about, and what fear has kept you from sharing it?
Think about someone you know who might be struggling with something you’ve already overcome through God’s help—what would happen if they heard your story?
If someone else had stayed silent about their breakthrough, how would your journey with God be different today, and whose journey might be waiting on yours?
Your story matters more than you know. The freedom God has given you wasn’t meant to be hidden—it was meant to light the way for someone else walking in the dark. When you find the courage to share what God has done, you’re not bragging about yourself; you’re becoming a signpost pointing others toward the One who sets people free.
Until next time,
May the Lord bless you and keep you;
May He make His face shine upon you;
And be gracious to you and give you peace.
God Bless!
