Have you ever noticed that the things you think about most end up shaping how you live? If we spend our days worrying about what might go wrong, we become anxious people. If we focus on what others have that we don’t, we become discontent. But here’s the good news: when we train our minds to focus on Jesus and His truth, something powerful happens. Our worries start to shrink, temptations lose their grip, and we begin to look more like Him—kinder, more patient, more loving. Today, we’re going to explore how changing where our minds go can change everything about how we live.

Short Devotional

Jesus once taught that where our treasure is, that’s where our hearts will be also. The same is true for our minds. Whatever we feed our thoughts becomes what controls our feelings and actions. Think about it this way: if you spend an hour watching shows that make you angry or fearful, you’ll carry that anger and fear into the rest of your day. But if you spend time remembering who God says you are and what He has already done for you, peace starts to take root. The apostle Paul understood this deeply, which is why he wrote to the Colossians about setting their minds on things above, not on earthly things.

This isn’t about ignoring real problems or pretending life is easy. It’s about learning to see everything through the lens of God’s truth rather than through the lens of fear or worry. When we remind ourselves that we’re loved, forgiven, and secure in Christ, suddenly that difficult conversation at work doesn’t feel so overwhelming. When we remember that God owns everything and promises to provide, money troubles don’t have to steal our sleep. The fruit of a mind focused on Jesus—such as compassion, kindness, humility, and patience—grows naturally when we’re rooted in His truth. So let’s turn our hearts toward Him now in prayer.

Let's Pray

Heavenly Father,

I come to You today acknowledging that You are present with me right now, closer than my own breath. Thank You for never leaving me alone.

I confess that my mind wanders to so many places throughout the day—to worries about tomorrow, to replaying mistakes from yesterday, to comparing myself with others, to fears about things I cannot control.

Help me, Lord, to set my mind on things above, on the truth of who You are and who You say I am in Christ.

I struggle when earthly things feel so loud and urgent while Your truth feels quiet and distant. Teach me to recognize when I’m letting temporary things consume my thoughts.

When anxiety tries to take over, remind me that my life is hidden with Christ in You, safe and secure. When temptation whispers that I need something You haven’t given me, help me remember that I already have everything I need in Jesus.

Thank You for the promise that I can choose where my mind goes. Thank You that when I focus on Your reign, Your values, and my position in You, I don’t have to fight so hard against worry and sin—they naturally lose their power.

I’m grateful that You’re producing fruit in me: compassion when I want to judge, kindness when I feel bitter, humility when pride rises up, patience when I want to quit.

Give me strength today to pause and redirect my thoughts toward You.

In the powerful name of Jesus, I pray.

Amen.

Journaling Prompts

  • What thoughts or worries take up the most space in your mind on a typical day? How would your day look different if you replaced even half of those thoughts with the truth about who God is?

  • Imagine waking up tomorrow and truly believing that your life is completely secure in Christ, that nothing can separate you from His love. How would that belief change the way you handle your biggest current challenge?

  • God says your true identity is hidden with Christ in Him. What earthly labels or identities (your job, your relationship status, your achievements, your failures) are you letting define you instead?

The beautiful truth is that we don’t have to stay stuck in patterns of worry, anger, or fear. God has given us the ability to choose where our minds go, and He promises to help us make that choice every single day. As you go through this week, pay attention to where your thoughts drift when they’re not occupied with something specific. Each time you notice your mind going to a dark or anxious place, you have an invitation to redirect it toward Jesus and His truth. We’re cheering you on as you practice this life-changing habit.

Until next time,
May the Lord bless you and keep you;
May He make His face shine upon you;
And be gracious to you and give you peace.

God Bless!
