Money matters in our lives, but sometimes, it starts to matter too much. We work hard for success but can lose sight of what truly gives us value. Today’s devotional and prayer invites us to pause and reflect on Jesus's challenging words: "What do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?" These words remind us that our worth isn't found in our bank accounts or possessions but in something far more precious.
Just like the rich fool in Luke's gospel who stored up treasures for himself but wasn't rich toward God, we too can fall into the trap of finding our identity in what we own rather than who we are. How might our relationship with money change if we saw it as a tool for God's kingdom rather than the source of our security? As we say this prayer, let's open our hearts in prayer, asking God to realign our priorities and help us discover treasures that truly last.
Let's Pray
Lord, I come before You today with an open heart. You see everything about me—my struggles with wanting more, my worries about not having enough, and how easily I can measure my worth by my financial success.
I confess that sometimes I chase after money and achievements, believing they will make me complete. When I do well financially, I feel important; when I struggle, I feel like a failure. Remind me, Father, that gaining the whole world means nothing if I lose sight of what truly matters.
Thank You for being a God who provides. You have always taken care of my needs, even when I couldn't see how things would work out. Thank You for the resources You've entrusted to me, not as badges of my identity but as tools to serve Your kingdom purposes.
Help me, Lord, to hold my possessions with open hands. When I'm blessed financially, keep me humble and generous. Help me trust Your provision without shame or fear when I face lack. Show me how to use what I have—whether much or little—to bring hope and help to others.
I want financial success to be my servant, not my master. Let Your Spirit guide me to find my true identity as Your beloved child, with a value that no bank account could ever measure.
In Jesus' name, I place my trust in treasures that moth and rust cannot destroy.
Amen.
Journaling Prompts
When was the last time you felt your sense of worth was too connected to your financial situation? What emotions surfaced during that time?
If you were to write a letter to money describing your relationship with it, what would you say? What would you want to change?
Think about someone you know who handles their finances with wisdom and generosity. What specific qualities do you admire, and how might you adopt similar attitudes?
As we close this time of reflection, remember that true wealth isn't measured in dollars but in spiritual abundance. May you walk forward with renewed clarity about who you really are and what truly matters. We hope these thoughts will continue growing in your heart this week. Until next time, may you find joy in being rich toward God.
May the Lord Bless you and keep you;
May He make His face shine upon you;
And be gracious to you and give you peace
God Bless!
