Bible Verse
Finishing is better than starting. Patience is better than pride. Control your temper, for anger labels you a fool.
Have you ever felt that surge of emotion that seems to take over before you can catch your breath? Think about how often our most challenging relationship moments come down to those split seconds when our feelings run high. It's amazing how a single moment of patience can transform a potential argument into an opportunity for a deeper connection. This verse from Ecclesiastes speaks right to our hearts, reminding us that the path to wisdom often begins with those small choices we make when emotions are running strong.
Short Devotional
The story of David and King Saul always touches something deep in my soul. Remember when David had the perfect chance to strike back at Saul in that cave? His friends even urged him to take revenge, but instead, he chose patience over pride. He cut off just a piece of Saul's robe – a small act that spoke volumes about controlling his justified anger. What is striking is how David's choice to pause and reflect changed not just that moment but the entire course of his story.
Don't you sometimes wonder what might change in your own relationships if you could find that same pause button in heated moments? David's story reminds us that wisdom isn't about never feeling anger – it's about what we choose to do with it when it rises up inside us.

Let's Pray
Dear Father,
I come to You now, knowing that You see every struggle in my heart and every challenge in my relationships. Sometimes, these emotions feel so big, so overwhelming. When anger rises up inside me when pride whispers that I need to prove I'm right, help me remember to pause and breathe in Your presence.
Lord, I confess that there are times when I've let my temper get the better of me. I've said words I wish I could take back and acted in ways that didn't reflect Your love. Thank You for Your patience with me and for showing me what true wisdom looks like through Your Word and through the example of Jesus.
Help me become someone who chooses patience over pride. When those heated moments come, give me the strength to pause, even if just for a moment. Plant Your wisdom deep in my heart so I can respond with grace instead of anger. Show me how to finish conversations well, even when they're difficult.
Thank You for Your promise that You're working in me, shaping me to be more like Jesus. Thank You for the gift of Your Holy Spirit, who helps me grow in patience and self-control. Give me the courage to admit when I'm wrong and the humility to put relationships before being right.
In Jesus' name, I trust You to guide me toward wisdom in all my relationships.
Amen.
Journaling Prompts
Write about a time when patience helped you see a situation more clearly. What did God teach you in that moment?
What do you think David might have felt in that cave with Saul? How does his story speak to your own struggles?
Describe a relationship where pride might be preventing deeper connection. What would letting go of that pride look like?
Remember that every step toward patience is a step toward wisdom. You're not alone in this journey – God is with you, celebrating every small victory and every moment you choose wisdom overreaction. I'm excited to continue walking this path together, growing in grace one relationship at a time.
