Have you ever stared out a window on a quiet evening, watching the sky turn from blue to purple to black, and felt both peaceful and somehow lonely at the same time? There's something about those still moments that makes us more aware of ourselves - and sometimes more aware of feeling alone. Yet tucked away in Scripture is this amazing revelation that changes everything about those quiet moments. Before the stars even hung in the sky, we were already known, already loved, already held in someone's heart. This changes everything about being alone, doesn't it?
Short Devotional
Let's spend a moment with Moses's mother, Jochebed. Imagine her heart as she wove that tiny basket, waterproofing it with pitch and tar, knowing she would have to place her baby in the Nile River. Talk about feeling alone - here was a mother forced to trust God with her most precious gift, probably wondering if anyone understood her pain or saw her faith. Yet God had already known this moment would come. He'd already prepared a plan that would not only save Moses but would also reshape history through him.
When Jochebed placed that basket in the river, she couldn't see how her story would unfold. She couldn't know that her son would grow up to free a nation or that her act of trust would be remembered thousands of years later. Just like those moments when we feel most alone, most uncertain - God has already seen them, already woven them into a bigger story than we can imagine. Our tears, our trust, our tiny acts of faith - none of them are wasted in God's eyes.

Let's Pray
Loving Father,
What comfort fills our hearts knowing that before the mountains were formed before the oceans filled their depths, You knew us completely. In these quiet moments, as we open our hearts to You, help us truly understand the depth of this truth.
Thank You for being the One who has never lost sight of us, even when we've felt invisible to the world. Thank You for writing our stories with purpose and love, for seeing value in us before we took our first breath. When loneliness creeps in like a shadow, remind us that we were known by You first - known fully, loved deeply, and chosen purposefully.
Lord, in those moments, when solitude feels heavy rather than peaceful, when we scroll through phones looking for a connection or lay awake counting ceiling tiles, help us feel Your presence as clearly as a warm hug. Transform our understanding of alone time - let it become a sacred space where we remember who we are in You.
Give us wisdom to recognize Your fingerprints in our story, just as You showed them to Joseph in Egypt. When human connections feel empty or shallow, deepen our awareness of Your constant companionship. Help us find rest in knowing that even our unspoken thoughts are heard and held by You.
We trust that You, who knew us before time, are still writing our story with perfect love. Let this truth sink deep into our souls, changing how we view every moment - whether shared or solitary.
In Jesus' name, we rest in the certainty of being fully known and deeply loved.
Amen.
Journaling Prompts
Describe a moment when you felt completely alone. Now, reimagine that same moment, knowing God knew about it before you were born. How does this change your perspective?
Write a letter to yourself from God's perspective, starting with "Before I formed you...”
What does it mean to you personally that God appointed you for specific purposes, just as He did Jeremiah?
You know that feeling when you're wrapped in your favorite blanket, holding a warm drink, and everything just feels right with the world? That's what knowing this truth should feel like - cozy, safe, real. Being known by God isn't just a nice religious idea - it's as practical as having someone who already knows what we'll face each day and has planned to be there with us through all of it. Let's carry this truth with us like a treasured secret that makes us smile even when no one else is around. Every quiet moment can remind us that we're living a story that's been loved from the beginning. Until next time, rest easy in knowing you're seen, known, and never alone - not even for a second.
God Bless!
