Bible Verse
The wise have wealth and luxury, but fools spend whatever they get.
You know that feeling when you're just trying to check Instagram, and suddenly you're eyeing a gadget you didn't even know existed 30 seconds ago? Trust me, I get it. One minute, you're catching up with friends, and the next, you're convinced you absolutely need that new air fryer that also doubles as a meditation coach (okay, I made that up, but you get the point!). It's wild how quickly our thumbs can swipe us into wanting more stuff. You're not alone in this daily tug-of-war between what your screen says you need and what your heart knows is true.
Short Devotional
Remember Joseph in Egypt? He didn't get caught up in the abundance during seven years of plenty. Instead, he wisely stored grain for the future, saving not just Egypt but surrounding nations from famine. What if Joseph had given in to immediate gratification, spending everything during the good years? His story challenges us to think differently about handling resources in times of plenty. When we scroll through social media today, are we more like Joseph, planning ahead, or are we letting each paycheck slip through our fingers like sand?
Read more about Joseph's wisdom in Genesis 41.
Let's Pray
Heavenly Father,
I come to You today aware of how easily I get caught up in the endless stream of wants and desires. As I scroll through my phone, it seems like everything is screaming for my attention—and my wallet. Lord, you know the struggle is real when every app seems to know exactly what I want before I even know I want it.
Thank You for Your wisdom, which stands true through every generation. Thank You for showing me through Your Word that being wise with money isn't about having more things but being faithful to what You've given me. I'm grateful that You care about these practical parts of my life.
Father, help me pause before I click "buy now." Give me the wisdom to see past the perfectly curated posts and ads that make me feel like I never have enough. When I'm tempted to spend impulsively, remind me of Your truth. Show me how to be more like Joseph, preparing wisely for the future rather than giving in to every momentary desire.
Lord, I need Your strength to break free from the comparison trap that social media creates. Help me find contentment in You rather than in things. Guide me to use technology and social media in ways that honor You and help me grow in wisdom.
In Jesus' name, I trust You to transform my heart and my habits,
Amen
Journaling Prompts
What emotions come up when you see friends posting about their latest purchases on social media? How do these feelings influence your spending decisions?
If Joseph navigated today's digital world, how would he approach saving and spending? What can you learn from his example?
When you read "the wise have wealth and luxury," what does that mean to you personally? How might God's definition of wealth differ from social media's definition?
Remember, every time you choose wisdom over impulse, you're growing stronger in your faith journey. Small decisions today create big changes tomorrow. I'm excited to continue exploring these practical ways to live out our faith together. Keep your eyes open for next week's letter, where we'll discover another treasure from God's Word that speaks directly to our daily lives.
God Bless!
