Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.

Have you ever watched a child share their favorite toy? There's something beautiful about that moment of hesitation, followed by the joy that lights up their face when they finally let go. That's what giving feels like when we really get it. Sure, the word "tithing" might sound a bit formal, but at its heart, it's about letting go and watching God work in wonderful ways. Think of Malachi 3:10 as God's gentle invitation to experience something amazing. It's like He's saying, "Just try me on this one - watch what happens when you trust me with your giving.”

Short Devotional

You know those people who seem to get it? Boaz was one of them. Picture this: a successful farmer who could have kept every grain for himself, but instead, he kept his hands open. When Ruth came to glean in his fields, he didn't just follow the rules about leaving some crops for those in need - he went above and beyond. He told his workers to drop extra grain for her purposely. Can you imagine being on his team? "Hey everyone, let's be a bit messy with the harvesting today - and if you see Ruth, make sure she gets plenty."

This wasn't just about following religious rules. Boaz understood something deeper - that everything he had was a gift meant to be shared. When we bring our tithes, we're doing more than moving money around. We're saying, "God, we trust you enough to do this your way." It's like stepping into a river - at first, the water might feel cold, but once you're in, you discover the joy of swimming with the current instead of against it.

Let's Pray

Heavenly Father,

Your presence fills me with peace as I come before You today. Thank You for being my provider, the source of every blessing in my life. I acknowledge that everything I have comes from Your generous hand, and I want to honor You with my giving. Lord, when I read Your promise in Malachi 3:10 to "open the floodgates of heaven," help me truly believe and trust in Your faithfulness.

Sometimes, I struggle with holding too tightly to what You've given me, allowing fear and uncertainty to overshadow Your promises. Give me the courage to release my grip and trust You completely with my finances.

Thank You for the example of generous hearts like Boaz, who showed us what giving freely and trusting in Your provision means. Help me develop that same spirit of generosity. When I'm tempted to hold back, remind me of Your faithfulness throughout my life. Show me how to steward better all You've entrusted to me.

Guide me in establishing healthy giving habits that honor You. Help me prioritize tithing as an act of worship rather than an obligation. Open my eyes to see opportunities where my giving can bless others and advance Your kingdom. Give me the wisdom to manage what remains with integrity and purpose.

I praise You for Your trustworthiness and thank You for inviting me to participate in Your work through giving. Help me experience the joy that comes from faithful stewardship.

In Jesus' name, I pray with confidence in Your promises.

Amen.

Journaling Prompts

  • Put yourself in Boaz's sandals for a moment. What would it feel like to be known as someone with a generous heart in your community? What small step could you take in that direction?

  • We all have that one thing that makes us nervous about giving consistently. What's yours? How does God's promise in Malachi speak to that specific worry?

  • If you could use your resources to make one person's dream come true, who would it be, and what would you do? What's holding you back?

  • When was the last time you took a leap of faith with your giving? What happened, and what did you learn about God's character?

You know what's amazing about this journey of giving? We're all figuring it out together. Some days, it feels easier than others, and that's okay. What matters is that we're taking steps forward and learning to trust a bit more each day. When we choose to give, we're not just following a rule - we're joining in on something beautiful. Think of it as being part of God's generosity ripple effect in the world. Let's keep encouraging each other as we learn what it means to live with open hands and trusting hearts. After all, some of life's best adventures start with simply saying "yes" to God's invitation.

Until next time,
May the Lord Bless you and keep you;
May He make His face shine upon you;
And be gracious to you and give you peace

God Bless!
