Money stress feels so real and immediate. The bills pile up, unexpected expenses hit, and that knot in our stomach grows tighter. But what if our financial anxiety is actually pointing to something deeper? What if the way we worry about money shows us exactly what we believe about God’s heart toward us? This devotional and prayer will help us see how our money fears often reveal our hidden doubts about whether God really knows what we need and whether He can be trusted to provide. Understanding this connection can transform both our relationship with money and our relationship with God.
Short Devotional
Jesus taught more about money than almost any other topic, not because He was obsessed with finances, but because He knew our hearts. When we lose sleep over bills or feel our chest tighten at unexpected expenses, we’re experiencing more than financial stress. We’re facing a crisis of trust. The same God who feeds sparrows and clothes wildflowers promises to care for His children, yet we find ourselves calculating and scheming as if everything depends on us. This reveals something important: deep down, we might believe God is either unaware of our situation, unable to help, or unwilling to come through for us.
King Solomon, the richest person of his time, discovered that having more money doesn’t cure money anxiety. In fact, wealth often makes it worse because we have more to lose. Solomon realized that people who love money never feel like they have enough, no matter how much they accumulate. This happens because money can’t fix the deeper problem - our need to trust someone bigger than ourselves. When we worry about finances, we’re really wrestling with whether God’s promises are true and whether His love for us is real. The good news is that God uses our money struggles to draw us closer to Him, teaching us to depend on His provision rather than our own efforts.
Let's Pray
Heavenly Father,
I come before You, acknowledging that You are present with me right now, even in the middle of my financial worries.
I confess that my anxiety about money often reveals my deeper struggles with trusting You. Like the wise King Solomon wrote, I sometimes love money and never feel satisfied with what I have, always wanting more security and control.
Forgive me for the times I’ve acted as if You don’t see my needs or care about my struggles with bills, debt, and providing for my family.
I’m grateful that You know exactly what I need before I even ask. Thank You for every provision You’ve already made in my life - the food I’ve eaten, the roof over my head, and the ways You’ve come through for me in the past.
Help me remember Your faithfulness when fear tries to take over my thoughts. When I start calculating and worrying about the future, remind me that You are already there, working on my behalf.
Give me wisdom to handle money responsibly while trusting You completely for my security. Help me see that my worth doesn’t come from my bank account, but from being Your beloved child.
Teach me to pray, “Give us this day our daily bread,” with real faith, knowing that You will provide what I need when I need it. Replace my financial anxiety with peace that comes from knowing You are in control.
In the powerful name of Jesus, I trust You with my finances and my future.
Amen.
Journaling Prompts
When you feel stressed about money, what specific thoughts go through your mind about God’s ability or willingness to help you?
How might your financial worries be protecting you from having to trust God more deeply in other areas of your life?
If you truly believed God would meet all your needs, how would your daily decisions about spending, saving, and working change?
God sees every financial concern weighing on your heart right now. He’s not distant or uncaring about your practical needs - He’s deeply involved in every detail of your life. As you learn to bring your money worries directly to Him in prayer, you’ll discover that He’s more trustworthy than any bank account or financial plan. May you find peace in knowing that the same God who holds the universe together is personally committed to caring for you.
Until next time,
May the Lord bless you and keep you;
May He make His face shine upon you;
And be gracious to you and give you peace
God Bless!
