Bible Verse

When times are good, be happy; but when times are bad, consider this: God has made the one as well as the other. Therefore, no one can discover anything about their future.

Today, we're going to be looking at times when God suddenly redirects our lives. Think about Moses for a moment. There he was, tending sheep in the desert, far from his past life in Egypt. His days had fallen into a predictable pattern as he'd settled into his new normal.

Then, one ordinary day became extraordinary when a bush caught fire but didn't burn up. That strange sight pulled Moses closer, and in that moment, everything changed. God spoke, and Moses' carefully settled life was completely redirected.

We all have our own burning bush moments, don't we? Those times when God interrupts our regular rhythms with something unexpected. Ecclesiastes reminds us that both good times and hard times come from God's hand. Sometimes the most important moments in our lives don't announce themselves – they appear as interruptions to our plans.

What if the meeting that got canceled, the delay that frustrated you, or the unexpected phone call wasn't just random chance? What if these moments are God's way of redirecting us toward something better than we had planned for ourselves?

Let's pray about being open to God's redirections in our lives, even when they come at inconvenient times.

Let's Pray

Heavenly Father,

Here I am before You, aware that You see the entire map of my life while I can only see the step right in front of me. Thank You for being the God who makes both good times and challenging times, as Ecclesiastes 7:14 reminds me. Sometimes I grip my plans and schedules so tightly that I miss Your gentle redirections.

Lord, I think about Moses, who probably had no idea that his ordinary shepherding day would change everything. Help me notice the burning bushes in my own life – those moments when You're trying to get my attention. I admit that I often rush past interrupted plans with frustration rather than curiosity about what You might be doing.

When my day doesn't go as expected, give me the wisdom to pause and consider that You might be making space for something I couldn't have planned. When a door closes unexpectedly, help me look around for the window You're opening instead. When relationships or opportunities suddenly shift, remind me that You are present in every unexpected turn.

Thank You for not leaving me alone to figure out my path. Thank You for being active in directing my steps, even when I don't understand Your timing. Give me courage to follow when You call me to new and unfamiliar places, just as Moses did.

I trust that Your interruptions are invitations to something better than I could arrange for myself.

In Jesus' name, I pray.

Amen.

Journaling Prompts

  • What "burning bush moment" have you experienced when God clearly redirected your path? How did you respond at the time?

  • What interruption in your life that initially felt negative ended up being a blessing? What did this teach you about God's timing?

  • If God spoke to you through an unexpected event today, would you recognize His voice? Why or why not?

  • Moses had to turn aside to see the burning bush. What distractions might be keeping you from noticing God's attempts to redirect you?

The unexpected turns in our lives often become the defining moments of our stories. When we train ourselves to see interruptions as potential invitations, we build a deeper trust in God's careful guidance. May we all become more attuned to God's voice in the unexpected places of our lives. Remember that both the good days and the challenging ones come from the same loving hand.

Until next time,
May the Lord bless you and keep you;
May He make His face shine upon you;
And be gracious to you and give you peace

God Bless!
