Bible Verse

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.

Ephesians 4:2-3

Bible Versions: (NIV) (NLT) (NKJV)

Welcome back! Grab a cozy spot and settle in – I've got something on my heart to share with you today. I've been thinking a lot about waiting lately (mostly because I'm terrible at it when it comes to others), and I bet I'm not the only one who struggles here. You know those moments when God's timeline feels like it's running on a completely different clock than yours? Whether it's in relationships, dreams, or just life in general, waiting can feel like a special kind of test. But here's the thing – I'm learning that these waiting seasons might actually be some of God's favorite classrooms for teaching us about love. So let's take a deep breath together and dive into what God's been showing me about patience, love, and His perfect timing.

Short Devotional

You know those moments when you're sitting there, checking your phone for the hundredth time, wondering why God hasn't answered your prayer yet? Hannah totally gets it. She spent years watching other women cradle their babies while her arms remained empty. But here's what gets me about her story – she didn't just wait around feeling sorry for herself. Even with a broken heart, she kept showing up at the temple, pouring out her soul to God. Sometimes she probably didn't even have words, just tears (trust me, God gets those too). Read more about Hannah's story in 1 Samuel chapter 1 and chapter 2.

I don't know about you, but waiting in relationships can feel like watching paint dry – only more emotional. Maybe you're single, and every wedding invitation feels like a reminder. Or you're dating, trying to figure out if they're "the one." Or you're married, and there's this blessing you and your spouse have been praying for forever. It's funny how God often uses these waiting rooms of life to teach us the most about love – not the butterflies-in-your-stomach kind, but the patient, gentle, I'm-still-choosing-you-even-when-it's-hard kind of love. Sometimes, I wonder if that's exactly where God wants us – learning to love like He does while we wait.

Let's pray together about this journey of patient love...

Let's Pray

Heavenly Father,

I come before You today with a heart that's both hopeful and heavy. You are the God of perfect timing, yet I confess that waiting is so hard for me. Thank You for being patient with me, even when I struggle to be patient in my relationships and with Your timing in my life.

Lord, You know the deepest desires of my heart – the relationships I'm longing for, the answers I'm waiting for, and the growth I'm working toward. Sometimes it feels like everyone else is moving forward while I'm standing still. Help me remember that You are working in these waiting seasons, just as You've promised.

Father, teach me to be completely humble and gentle, especially when my heart aches with unfulfilled hopes. When I'm tempted to rush ahead or force things to happen on my timeline, remind me of Your perfect love and wisdom. Show me how to bear with others in love, even when our relationship isn't what I want it to be yet.

Give me the strength to make every effort to keep unity in my relationships through the bond of peace. Help me see how You're using this season of waiting to shape me and prepare me. When I feel lonely or discouraged, wrap me in Your love and help me trust that You haven't forgotten me.

Thank You for modeling perfect patience with me. Help me extend that same grace to others and to myself. Guide me in using this waiting time wisely, growing stronger in my faith and becoming more like You.

In moments of weakness, remind me that Your timing is perfect and Your plans are good. I choose to trust You with my relationships and future. Help me wait with hope and peace, knowing You are faithful.

In Jesus' name, I pray,

Amen.

Journaling Prompts

  • Think about a time when God made you wait for something important. How did that waiting season shape your relationship with Him? What did you learn about His character during that time?

  • Hannah kept showing up at the temple even when her prayers seemed unanswered. What spiritual practices or habits help you stay connected to God during seasons of waiting? Which ones might you need to start?

  • Looking at your current season of waiting (big or small), write a letter to your future self about what you hope to learn or how you hope to grow through this time. What character qualities do you want to develop?

As you go about your day, remember that your season of waiting isn't wasted time – it's sacred ground where God is growing something beautiful in you. Keep showing up, keep loving patiently, and keep trusting that the One who gave you these desires hasn't forgotten about them. And hey, when those moments of impatience creep in (because they will), remember you're not alone in this – we’re right here also waiting and growing alongside you.

God Bless!
