Bible Verse

But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.

Deuteronomy 8:18 (NIV)

Bible Versions: (NIV) (NLT) (NKJV)

Have you ever noticed how the best moments in life often come with a gentle reminder? Like when you're standing in your garden, admiring the tomatoes you've grown, and suddenly remember it was the sun and rain that did the real work. Success can feel like that, too. We work hard, we achieve, we build something beautiful - but there's this quiet voice that whispers, "Remember who gave you the green thumb in the first place."

Short Devotional

Solomon's story hits differently when you really sit with it. Here's this brilliant young king who started out so beautifully - asking God for wisdom instead of riches. But then success started rolling in, and oh, how things changed. It's like watching a friend slowly forget where they came from. The palace got bigger, the gold piled higher, and somewhere along the way, the grateful prayers became fewer and farther between.

Don't we all know that feeling? When things are going well, it's so easy to get caught up in the momentum of success that we forget to pause and look up. Solomon's later words in Ecclesiastes feel like a friend sitting us down for coffee and real talk: "I achieved everything I dreamed of, but something still felt missing."

Let's Pray

Loving Father,

As I sit in Your presence, I'm reminded of Your incredible generosity. Every skill, every opportunity, every moment of success flows from Your hand. I confess how easily I forget this truth, how naturally I slip into thinking my achievements are solely my own.

Lord, when success comes, help me see Your fingerprints all over it. When my business thrives, remind me that Your enabling makes it possible. When my talents bring rewards, let me remember that You are the source of every good gift.

Thank You for the abilities You've given me. Thank You for the opportunities to create, to build, to succeed. But most of all, thank You for Your patience when I forget to acknowledge You in my achievements.

Guide me toward a deeper awareness of Your presence in my work. Help me hold my success loosely, seeing it as a gift rather than a possession. Give me the wisdom to steward well what You've entrusted to me.

Let every achievement become a moment of worship, every success a reason to praise. Help me find the beautiful balance between working diligently and completely depending on You.

In Jesus' name, I pray for eyes that see Your grace in every accomplishment and a heart that never forgets to thank You.

Amen.

Journaling Prompts

  • When was the last time success made you feel self-sufficient? Describe that moment and how it affected your relationship with God.

  • What abilities do you possess that you've never thought to thank God for? List them and reflect on how they've shaped your life.

  • How might your approach to challenges change if you view your abilities as borrowed gifts rather than personal possessions?

You know those moments when truth clicks into place? That's what we're after here - those beautiful realizations that success isn't just about what we achieve but about who enabled us to achieve it. In the quiet moments between your next big win, take a breath and remember - you're not just building a life; you're living out a love story with the One who gave you the blueprint. And maybe, just maybe, the greatest success isn't found in what we accomplish but in how deeply we let that truth sink into our hearts. Until we meet again, may you find joy in seeing God's hand in everything you do, from the smallest task to the biggest triumph.

God Bless!
