Have you ever caught yourself scrolling through old photos or memories, getting lost in the "what-ifs" and "remember-whens"? It's amazing how quickly we can get pulled back into seasons God has already walked us through. That's exactly why those words "Remember Lot's wife" hit so close to home. She was steps away from her fresh start but couldn't resist one last look at what she was leaving behind. Sometimes, the hardest part of moving forward isn't the path ahead - it's learning to let go of what's behind us. But here's the thing: God doesn't just call us forward to leave us wandering. He's already got something better planned for every comfort zone. He's asking us to leave.

Short Devotional

It's funny how certain places, smells, or songs can instantly pull us back to old seasons of life we thought we'd left behind. Maybe it's that familiar route past an old workplace or a late-night craving for comfort food that reminds us of choices we're trying to leave behind. Those moments of nostalgia or temptation can feel so powerful, can't they? But here's the beautiful truth - God didn't bring us this far to take us back.

When we catch ourselves looking in the rearview mirror too long, it helps to remember why God led us out in the first place. Those relationships He helped us break free from, those habits He gave us strength to overcome, those situations He rescued us from - they're behind us for a reason. The question isn't whether those old familiar paths still call to us sometimes (they often do) but whether we'll trust that God's path forward holds something far better than what we've left behind.

Let's Pray

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for Your constant presence in our lives. As we reflect on Your Word and remember Lot's wife, help us understand the importance of moving forward in faith. We confess that sometimes we find ourselves looking back at old habits, past hurts, or comfortable situations You've delivered us from.

Lord, give us the strength to keep our eyes fixed on You and the path You're leading us down. When memories of past struggles or temptations try to pull us backward, help us remember that Your grace has already set us free. Thank You for every situation You've brought us through and every chain You've broken in our lives.

Guide our steps as we journey forward. When uncertainty makes us want to retreat to familiar territory, remind us of Your faithfulness. Help us trust that Your plans for our future are greater than anything we're leaving behind. Give us the courage to embrace the new seasons You're leading us into, even when they stretch our faith.

We're grateful for Your patience when we stumble and Your gentle correction when we start to look back. Thank You for consistently drawing us forward into a deeper relationship with You. Lead us away from the temptation to return to old patterns or relationships that don't honor You.

In Jesus' name, we claim the victory that comes from fixing our eyes on You and moving forward in faith.

Amen.

Journaling Prompts

  • What past situations or relationships do you find yourself looking back at most often? How might God be inviting you to shift your focus forward?

  • Picture yourself at a crossroads – one path leads back to familiar comfort, the other forward into unknown territory with God. What emotions surface? What holds you back from stepping forward?

  • Write about a time when focusing on the past prevented you from embracing something new God was doing in your life. What did you learn from that experience?

  • How has God been faithful to you in the past? How can remembering these moments strengthen your resolve to keep moving forward?

You know that nervous excitement that comes with stepping into something new? That flutter in your stomach that's part anticipation, part uncertainty? That's often how moving forward with God feels. But here's what makes it beautiful - we're not walking this path alone. Every person reading this right now is somewhere on their own journey forward, taking those brave steps away from what's familiar and into what God has next.

Some days, those steps feel huge, while other days, they're as simple as choosing to trust God's "yes" over our old comfort zones. And that's okay. Tomorrow morning brings another chance to look forward instead of back, to choose trust instead of familiar comfort. Whether you're taking your first steps forward or helping others find their way, remember—God has never failed us, and He's not about to start now.

Until next time,
May the Lord Bless you and keep you;
May He make His face shine upon you;
And be gracious to you and give you peace

God Bless!
