Bible Verse
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

Today, we're going to be looking at how fear keeps us from using the gifts God has given us. When we look at the parable Jesus told about the three servants who received talents, we see something interesting about the one who buried his money. This servant didn't lose the money or spend it foolishly. Instead, he let his fear of his master stop him from doing anything at all with what he was given. Fear made him play it safe, but playing it safe was actually the riskiest choice he could have made.
God's perfect love drives out fear, as we read in 1 John 4:18. When we truly understand that we are loved completely by God, we stop making choices based on what we're afraid might happen. Think about the gifts, abilities, and opportunities God has given you. Are there ways you're burying them because you're afraid of failing or being judged? Just like the servant who missed out on his master's happiness, fear can rob us of the joy that comes from boldly using what God has given us.
Let's Pray
Heavenly Father,
I come before You today knowing that You see me completely and love me perfectly. Thank You for the reminder in Your Word that perfect love drives out fear. I confess that too often, I've been like that servant who buried his talent in the ground because he was afraid. Fear has made me hesitant to use the gifts You've given me.
Lord, I recognize now how fear has limited my spiritual growth. When I worry about failing or being judged, I choose safety over trust. When I focus on potential punishment rather than Your love, I miss opportunities to serve You fully. Help me see how these fear-based decisions have led to empty places in my walk with You.
Thank You for being patient with me as I learn to trust Your love more than my fears. Thank You for the talents, abilities, and resources You've entrusted to me. I'm grateful that You believe in me enough to give me these responsibilities.
Please give me the courage to step out in faith, even when I can't see the outcome. Help me to remember that Your love is more powerful than any fear I face. Guide me to invest what You've given me wisely and boldly, not out of obligation but from a heart overflowing with gratitude for Your love.
I choose today to reject fear as my motivation and instead embrace Your perfect love. Let my actions flow from confidence in who You are rather than worry about what might happen. In Jesus' name, I pray with confidence that You will help me grow beyond my fears.
Amen.

What gift or ability has God given you that fear has caused you to "bury" rather than use? What would using this gift look like if fear wasn't holding you back?
Think about a time when you made a decision based on fear rather than love. How did that choice affect your relationship with God and others?
What would change in your life if you truly believed and lived by the truth that "perfect love drives out fear" (1 John 4:18)?
Imagine God as the master in the parable returning to see how you've used your "talents." Write a conversation between you and God about what you've done with what He's given you.
As we move forward this week, let's keep asking ourselves whether our choices are coming from fear or from God's perfect love. When we make decisions based on love rather than fear, we invest our lives in ways that bring true spiritual abundance. God hasn't given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. May we grow in trusting His perfect love that casts out all fear as we use our gifts boldly for His glory.
Until next time,
May the Lord bless you and keep you;
May He make His face shine upon you;
And be gracious to you and give you peace
God Bless!
