Today, we're going to talk about something that can completely change how we make decisions. Think about Abraham, a man who had a comfortable life in his hometown until God asked him to leave everything behind. He packed up his family and followed God's promise to a place he had never seen before. What made him do something so bold and risky? Abraham understood something powerful about God's promises - they last forever, while everything else we hold onto eventually fades away.

When we really understand that God's plans and promises are eternal, it changes everything about how we live. We start making choices based on what will last forever instead of what feels good right now. We begin to see our jobs, our relationships, and our daily decisions through God's eyes instead of just our own. This shift in thinking doesn't happen overnight, but when it does, we find ourselves living with more purpose and less worry about things that don't really matter. Today's prayer will help us ask God to give us His forever perspective so we can make choices that really count.

Let's Pray

Heavenly Father,

I come to You today knowing that You are always with me, even when I can't see the bigger picture. Just like Abraham trusted Your eternal promises when You called him to leave everything familiar, I want to learn to trust in You forever because You are my Rock that will never change or fail me.

I confess that I often make decisions based on what feels safe or comfortable right now, instead of considering what You want for my future. I get caught up worrying about my job, my relationships, and my plans, forgetting that Your promises last forever while these earthly things are only temporary. Help me to see my life through Your eyes and understand that Your forever perspective is so much bigger and better than my limited view.

Thank You for being the one constant I can always count on. Thank You for Your faithfulness that never ends and Your love that never runs out. When everything around me feels uncertain, You remain the same yesterday, today, and always.

Please give me the courage to make decisions based on Your eternal promises instead of my temporary fears. Help me to trust You with my career choices, my relationships, and my future, knowing that You see the whole picture while I only see small pieces. Give me Abraham's kind of faith to follow Your leading even when I don't understand where You're taking me.

I ask for wisdom to recognize the difference between what will last forever and what will fade away. Strengthen my faith to choose Your eternal ways over the world's temporary solutions.

In Jesus' mighty name,

Amen.

Journaling Prompts

  • What "comfortable" situation in your life might God be asking you to leave behind for something better? Write about an area where you've been choosing safety over God's calling.

  • If you knew for certain that God's promises would come true, what decision would you make differently today? Think about a current choice you're facing and how an eternal perspective might change your approach.

  • Describe a time when something you thought was permanent turned out to be temporary. How did that experience teach you about the difference between earthly security and God's eternal reliability?

  • What temporary comfort or security are you holding onto that might be keeping you from experiencing God's eternal blessings? Be honest about areas where fear of change might be limiting your faith.

Understanding God's forever perspective isn't something that happens all at once, but every small step toward eternal thinking makes our lives more meaningful and peaceful. When we start making choices based on what lasts forever instead of what feels good today, we discover the same kind of faith that made Abraham willing to leave everything behind. Remember that God's promises to you are just as real and lasting as the ones He made to Abraham thousands of years ago. We're excited to continue exploring how God's truth can transform the way we live and love in our next time together.

Until next time,
May the Lord bless you and keep you;
May He make His face shine upon you;
And be gracious to you and give you peace

God Bless!
